Specialty Camps at Peirce School (grades 2-8) Register View Cart

Our specialty camps offer half day, standard day and extended day options.  Each camp offers their own specialized instruction in the morning led by teachers or coaches.  Campers staying for standard or extended day will join together to participate in choice activities led by our camp staff including sports, gym, playground, arts and crafts, inside games, creative writing, STEM and water play.  

Each program has the option to sign up for Half Day, Standard Day or Extended Day for the week.  Half Day runs from 8:30 am - 1:00 pm, Standard Day from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm and Extended Day from 8:15 am - 5:30 pm.  Half day campers that don't want to stay for lunch can get picked up at 12:15 pm.

4-H Programs (grades 3 - 8)
  • 7/20 Critter Care - Discover the joy of having and caring for a pet. The 4-H Critter Care program will teach children the importance of proper animal care as well as the responsibilities of owning a pet. Youth will learn how to care for pets like rabbits, hamsters, fish, dogs, cats and birds and identify the equipment that a small animal will need to thrive.
  • 8/3 S.E.T. Mars Mission – Are you ready for 4-H S.E.T. Mars Mission?  Become a trainee in the 4-H Space program and learn about rocket propulsion, design, launch and computer science.  Each day you will explore a different part of the mission including ground control &  mission support.  How do we need to train for the trip?  What materials do we need to have? How will we get there?  Come explore the answers to these questions and pose some of your own.

Archery (grades 3 - 8)
Learn traditional recurve archery, as seen in the Olympics! Relax as you aim for your target and feel the thrill of success when your patience and concentration pays off. Learn the fundamentals and put your skills to the test in mini competitions and archery games. Classes are led by a certified USA Archery and National Field Archery Association (NFAA) instructors. All equipment is provided.

Chess (grades 2 - 8)
U.S. Chess Life Master Lou Mercuri will teach the basic moves of chess and beyond---including checkmating patterns, tactics, opening strategy, endgames, and how to visualize a couple of moves ahead. Pattern recognition and essential themes important to learning will be taught. An introduction to classic games, fantastic finishes, and famous players will be covered. Children need to be familiar with the basic rules of chess and how the pieces move around the board to join.

Mad Science (grades 2 - 6)
  • 8/10 Eureka! - Children overcome a series of challenges using basic materials, simple machines, tips from famous inventors, and most importantly, their minds. With a bit of ingenuity, they create catapults and forts, construct working light sticks, and assemble a set of circuits with batteries and light bulbs.
  • 8/17 Red Hot Robots - Learn about the uses of robots in our world and spend time experimenting with super cool red-hot robots. Discover the science of circuits and how robots use sensors to explore things around them. Build your very own working robot to take home.

Puppet Lab with Puppet Showplace Theater (grades 3 - 8)
Led by Puppet Showplace Theater - Puppet Lab focuses on the mechanics, engineering, and design side of puppetry arts. Inspired by the six simple machines, puppeteers will design and build mechanisms (“mechs”) to create specific movements and special effects. Kids will see advanced puppet mechs in action, build a variety of prototype puppets out of different materials, and engineer their own creative characters.

  • Learn science through inter-active models, demonstrations and fun projects. Understand, design, and build mechanical projects and program lego robots. Children will use a variety of tools to learn key scientific and mathematical concepts with fun challenges and engineering problems to solve. Our goal is to give students the tools to learn 'How to Problem Solve'.

VEX Robotics (grades 3 - 8)
Explore and apply science and math that engineers use to design robots. Learn about VEX IQ Basics and coding, then use your knowledge, imagination, creativity and team work to crack daily challenges in small groups. Sample challenges include designing a robot to lift a heavy object, or complete a task in a specific time limit.
