Camp Extreme is a summer program that offers kids entering grades 5-8 an opportunity to experience a fun field trip each day where they will get the chance to be active, make new friends and have a memorable summer.   From hiking, swimming, climbing, adventure & more, campers are challenged each day to push themselves and do more than they ever have before.     Campers sign up by week, and can register for any number of weeks they are interested in.  Please see the flyer and calendar for weekly trips and check out our trip locations in the links section.  Some trips are tentative and may change as some locations are not open for booking yet.  Please be mindful when registering about what trips are offered and your child's ability/interest in the planned activity.  Waivers are required for several of our trips this summer.  Information on waivers will be emailed with trip confirmations and must be completed in order for campers to participate in specific activities.  Children entering grades 7 & 8 in the Fall can sign themselves in and/or out of camp with parent permission.  Children entering grades 5 & 6 in the Fall must be signed in and out by an adult.Full payment is due at the time of registration.  People cancelling before March 15th will receive a refund minus a $30.00 non refundable deposit.
 
9:00 AM - 3:45 PM    All Star Chess Training - August 4 - 8 at Emerson
For serious young chess players between the ages of 8 and 15 who want to make considerable progress in improving the focus of their game.  U.S. Life Master and FIDE trainer Lou Mercuri is running his 23rd summer of All Star Chess Training and is once again partnering with Newton Parks & Recreation.  Special features of the Training Camp include:Small group training sessionsTournament preparationTeam problem-solving competitions40-problem tactics testBook prizesStudent evaluations and recommendationsGroup analysis of students’ best gamesNew training manuals for each sessionBlitz chess tournament3 to 4 staff trainers per sessionThere is no minimum or maximum recommended rating, but the general range of abilities for this camp is from players just starting tournaments to players in the top 50 for their age in the US.Players may register for one or both weeks of the program.
