Permanent Orienteering Courses in Newton
Orienteering is a sport that can be done outdoors year round and promotes physical fitness and decision making skills by challenging you to read a detailed map (using a compass if desired), and plan a route to find control markers along a designated course.
In competitive courses, the fastest time wins, so planning the best route and navigating through trails becomes a useful skill. In non-competitive courses, orienteering becomes a fun “treasure hunt” to find all of the controls.
Click on the flyer in the forms section to see the many health and well-being benefits of orienteering.
Permanent Courses In Newton
Permanent courses for beginners allow people to experience orienteering on their own. Newton Parks & Recreation worked with Eagle Scouts to install our 5 permanent courses throughout the City.
Courses are designed for beginners to build on their orienteering skills as they progress through the 5 courses. Click on the links below for a map of each course.
As with any athletic activity, participants should keep in mind their level of fitness and skill when deciding which course to participate in. Be sure to check out the orienteering considerations information in the forms section before starting.
Want to learn more about orienteering? Sign up for one of our orienteering skills classes or check out the Beginner Skills video in the links section to learn more.
