Winter Indoor Tennis at Newton South - Red Ball for Ages 4 - 5 and 6 - 8 Join us for indoor tennis this Winter with JXS Tennis Academy. All players need to bring their own racket and bottle of water. Please bring a clean, dry pair of sneakers for the gym. If it is raining or snowy outside this may mean bringing a separate pair of sneakers to change into.Because of the scheduling of classes and limited time availability, make-ups are not offered for this program if you need to miss a class.What do the ball colors mean?Red Ball: 19/21-inch rackets are used with red felt balls. This means children can control the ball and racket, develop proper swing technique and get a real sense of playing the game.Orange Ball: 21/23-inch rackets are used with an orange ball that is lower compression that travels a little faster and farther than the red ball. Players are taught proper technique for all strokes-focusing on ground stroke development, net play and serving. Footwork and beginning level of basic strategy – how to keep score and rally.Green Ball: 25/27 inch rackets are used. The green ball has less pressure than the standard yellow ball (75% pressure) and easier to hit. This stage is for players that can rally, volley and beginning to understand strategy and tactics.Yellow Ball: Is designed for high school and adult competitive players. Badminton Instruction - Winter Badminton Instruction - Youth Learn the skills of badminton including grip, stroke development, movement around the court, singles and doubles play, and physical training to support skills. Classes include instruction and round robin style play to practice skills.Classes at Cabot School run in the Fall and Spring on Saturdays and include 3 full sized hard wood floor courts.Classes at Newton South Recreation Complex run in the Winter on Sundays in the field house and use 3 hardwood floor courts and 1 rubber court.Youth classes are open to all level players. Multiple courts allow instructors to work with different skill levels on separate courts.Classes for Teens and Adults include a Beginner/Intermediate section and an Intermediate/Advanced section. As with our youth classes, multiple courts allow instructors to work with different skill levels on separate courts.*Beginner/Intermediate players are new to the sport, like to play recreationally, or are still developing their footwork, strokes and accuracy of their shots. *Intermediate/Advanced players should have a solid foundation on different strokes and movement around the court and be serious about improving their game.
