11:30 AM - 12:30 PM    Introduction to Orienteering - Intro to Orienteering for Individuals
Our introduction to orienteering programs are great for beginners who have never done orienteering and will help increase the skills needed to complete an orienteering course.  These programs will have a 20 minute training on various aspects of orienteering like understanding the map and symbols on the map, orienting and thumbing the map, planning your route, and what to do if you are lost or can't find the marker.  Participants will then go out to complete a beginner course.   For Families - registration is for families that live in the same household and must include at least 1 adult.  When registering, only register 1 adult and then list additional family members in the Questions section when you check out so we can print the correct number of maps.  Children under 8 may have difficulty understanding the map but will enjoy helping their family find all of the control markers on the trails. For Individuals - each person must be 14 or older and each person participating must register.  This program does not provide supervision of youth when they are out on the trails. For Scout Troops - registration is for members in the specific troop listed.  If you have a troop that would like to participate in a workshop please contact Channon Ames at cames@newtonma.govThese activities run rain or shine and can be completed even in the snow.  We will cancel in the event of extreme weather.
