Calling all youth that love children!  This babysitting course is a great way to learn the skills to make you a successful babysitter.  

Developed by the UMASS Extension 4-H Youth Development Program, this Babysitter Training Program teaches youth what they need to know to be caring, trustworthy, responsible and competent babysitters.  


Taught by a parent and camp director who is also a former 4-Her, this 5-week course will help youth learn and build skills in:
  • Qualities of a Great Babysitter - understanding the values of being trustworthy, respectful, responsible, fair, and caring for others
  • Safety - knowing what is expected when it comes to answering the phone or door, personal safety, home safety and potential hazards, and what to do in an emergency 
  • Basic First Aid - understanding common illnesses and injuries and how to help
  • Child Development - knowing characteristics and what is needed from children at varying ages and addressing behaviors appropriately
  • Food and Nutrition - understanding healthy food choices, safety when feeding (food temperatures, choking hazards and allergies), proper handwashing
  • Entertaining Children - learning about age appropriate activities, toy safety, and activity planning 
  • The Business of Babysitting - understand babysitter do's and dont's and create a business plan with marketing materials
