Geocashing Adventure Workshop

hiking

Discover the world of modern-day treasure hunting with our fun and interactive Geocaching Adventure Workshop! This hands-on session is perfect for beginners and curious explorers alike. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast or just looking for a new hobby, geocaching offers a unique blend of adventure, navigation, and discovery.
In this workshop, you'll learn the basics of geocaching—a global outdoor activity where participants use GPS-enabled devices to hide and seek hidden containers, known as “geocaches.” in urban as well as wooded areas like Cold Springs Park.

We’ll cover everything you need to get started, including how to use GPS coordinates, read maps, log your finds, and follow geocaching etiquette. You’ll also get familiar with the essential gear, such as smartphones or handheld GPS units, a pen, and small tradeable trinkets. The workshop includes a short outdoor practice session where you’ll search for a real cache nearby—so wear comfortable shoes and be ready for a mini adventure! (About a 30 minute casual walk) No prior experience is needed. Just bring your curiosity and a sense of fun. By the end of the session, you'll be ready to join a global community of explorers and start finding caches on your own!

Workshop will be conducted by Ruane Crummett. Ruane has been “Geocaching” for over 20 years. He has found over 2300 “caches” in many states and Mexico. Although this may seem like a large number of “finds”, there are many Geocachers who have found 10,000 and more in all countries around the world. This will be a “low key” presentation and Ruane will be happy answer any questions you may have.
